Six Pakistani soldiers have been killed in a roadside bomb attack in the troubled tribal region of Orakzai, near the Afghan border, security officials say.

The explosion hit the convoy of paramilitary troops as it was travelling in the Yakh Kandaw area.

One report said this was the third bomb attack targeting soldiers on patrol in the tribal region since Tuesday.

Orakzai has seen major military operations against the Taliban.

Taliban militants, fleeing army operations in the other parts of the tribal belt, have been trying to establish safe havens in the area.
